The Pending Baby Boom July 22, 2008

So within the last month, our close friends and family have welcomed four new babies. The next “round” includes our little bundle and three others (end of August). But thats not the biggest news. Since June, we’ve learned of 9 10 MORE babies en route. Plus we have fingers crossed for plenty of other couples we know to be trying.

Needless to say, we find ourselves talking about pregnancy and parenthood quite a bit. Its especially nice to think about second generation friendships between families, but on a more practical note, I’m thinking this news of a boomlet is completely legit. Have you heard this? More babies born in 2007 than at the height of the post WWII baby boom (4.32 million vs. 4.30 million in 1957)? Only a boomlet because the trend is only growing by single-digits every year.

Just to be clear. This means that aside from the normal economic challenges we will all face in our own family units (paying the bills, college, etc), we as a generation will need to take responsibility for our parents generation (social security, medical care, etc), AND set into motion a set of policies that will leave our children better off than we find ourselves now (totally indebted, major environmental/energy issues, etc).

The upside? LOADS of leadership potential…

Our minimal obligation? VOTE!
