Kidding in San Francisco November 24, 2008

Best gift I’ve ever received, but it needs a little backstory: one of my favorite quotes is from a John Updike novel, about how the true New Yorker believes that anyone living anywhere else must be, in some sense, kidding.  John Updike visited NPR’s offices a couple of weeks ago, and Sara stalked him to have him write me a little note on the quote… confirming my own feelings about San Francisco.

For the last week or two, Ari’s been transfixed by his hand, the left in particular. He hits himself in the head with it sometimes (unintentionally), but more often he tries to stick it in his mouth. It definitely doesn’t fit.
